Chicago Cubs Convention

Hello, every year for my birthday me and my wife DeeDee go to the Cubs Convention at the Chicago Hilton on Michigan Ave. This was our third year going to the convention and we see many of the same people every year who are just as much diehard fans as us. This year we decided, we would go late on Thursday night so we would miss the crazy check in. When DeeDee got out of class on Thursday, we took a taxi to the hotel and checked into our room at about midnight. The hotel was already crazy!!! There were people everywhere in the hallway trying to get autographs from players checking into their rooms. It was funny because as I was checking us into our room one of the rookies was checking into his room and all these people where standing around trying to get his autograph.

On Friday morning me and DeeDee went and checked in for the Cubs Convention so we could get our 3 day pass. We then went to Grand Ballroom which is upstairs were opening ceremonies were to take place. We got there at about 2:30 and there was people already lining up in the room so they would be in the room for opening ceremonies. So we decide to wait. DeeDee read her book while I watched a movie on her Ipod. Opening ceremony started at 5:30. It was cool because they introduced all the players past and present and the place went crazy whenever someone new was introduced. Then they sang Take Me Out To The Ballpark and showed a video of last year highlights.

Then me and DeeDee ran to the photo station 2 were Andre Dawson was taking pictures with fans. The line was long but not to long because most fans wanted to get their picture taken with Sorino which I total didn’t get. So I and DeeDee got our picture taken and I was so excited. I remember watching the “Hawk” Dawson play. It was so cool.

Then on Saturday morning, I got up early because I wanted to get my picture taken with Lou Pinella. The line was long when we got there but since we got their early we got our picture. Lou was so cool and fun to talk to and down to earth. He was friendly with everyone. I kept thinking of the “My Lou Pinella” song the whole time we where in line. But now I see why the players respect and like him so much.

After that we tried to get our picture taken with Ryan Sandburg but he got their late and we missed getting our picture taken with him by like 20 people. If he had been there the entire 45 minutes like he was supposed to we would totally would have made it. Another year where I miss meeting Ryno. Maybe I will get to meet him next year.

Then we went to a “show” called Story Telling with Cubs Legends and heard stories from Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Lee Smith, and Rick Sutcliffe. It was very interesting and I learned a lot. First Ron Santo told a story about and egg timer. He said that someone wrapped up an egg time and put it his locker. He goes and picks it up and hears it ticking. So he takes it outside and throws it over the bleachers wall and comes running back into the locker room where the rest of his teammates are laughing as the trainer comes back and asks the players where his timer is.
I learned a lot about Mr. Cubs Ernie Bank. I didn’t know that he had twins and the reason he came up with “Lets play Two” was he didn’t want to have to go home. Ernie Banks and Ron Santo teased each other and joked with each other the entire time. It was funny to watch the two interact with each other. Mr. Cub is an amazing man and seems to always look at everything positively which is awesome. I hope I am as positive as him when I get to be his age. He is in his 70's but you can't even tell by the way he acts.
Also I learned an interesting story about Lee Smith. He used to make Greg Maddox run out and get him sandwiches before games. It was funny hearing about a Future Hall of Fame Pitcher going out and doing stuff like that. But it was very funny to hear. Ron Santo talked a lot but I love listening to his stories. They are always so funny.

Then on Sunday, I got my picture taken with Darrel Ward.

While I was geting my picture taken with Darrel Ward my wife DeeDee went and got her picture taken with Ted Lilly.

Then we got some autographs from some rookies. I then went and bought a signed Ernie Banks bat. We went back to our rooms and packed up to go home. I wished that the Cubs Convention was longer then two days. I think it should be longer. I already can’t wait to go back next year. GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!

Also at the cubs Convention I learned about a minature sized Wrigley Field they are building in Freeport IL. It is going to be for peewee baseball and kickball put it is going to look just like Wrigley Field but smaller.

New Years in Las Vegas

Google

Hello for New Years me and My wife DeeDee decided we would try going to Las Vegas for New Years Eve. Well a few months ago, while we where looking up flights and hotel information on the internet we realized that we could go for 5 days for the same price it would have cost to go just for a few days so we decieded to go for 5 nights. So we left on December 27th at 8 am and arrived in Las Vegas at about 10 am where we had a car pick us up and take us to the Ballys. Ballys is right next to Paris right in the middle of the strip. It was in a good location because really we were not to far away from anything. We could walk anywhere we wanted to which was awesome.

On the first night there we went to downtown vegas to see the the Fremont Street Experience. The light show is really cool and downtown Vegas is completely different then the strip. I mean other then the light show downtown Vegas is kind of run down. But I kind of liked it because it seems so much more relaxed there then the strip. After awhile the strip seemed way to busy but downtown Las Vegas had its own feel and it was cool to see. Me and DeeDee walked up and down the street and went into a couple of casinos. It seemed like we had only been there an hour or two when we realized that we had been there for like 4 hours so we headed back to the hotel in a taxi.

On friday we went to see the show Crazy Horse at MGM. Our seats where like in the front row and could see the show good. It was one of the coolest, weirdest, crazyest shows I have ever seen. The women where almost naked the entire time and there where these lights going on them and most of the time you couldnt even tell they where naked. It was so strange but cool at the same time. They could dance without even making faces or jesters or anything. It was strange but really cool. I would recommend it to anyone who goes to Vegas.

On Saturday we went to go see LOVE. Love in the Beatles show. It was very strange and i really didnt get it. DD loved Love and she said it was her favorite show. I just didnt get it. We use Beatles music as nap music at work and I kept wanting to crowl up into a ball and goto sleep. I not saying I hated it. There where parts that i did like. I liked this one part where there is this tent that covers the entire auddice and as the auddice flaps it there is a yellow submurine on the tarp. I would compare it to the circus with beatles music playing in the background.

Also on saturday we went to see the show price is right at Ballys. That show was fun but me and DeeDee think it was rigged the way they picked people to come up. The same lady got called up twice. And two brothers got called up at the same time. It seemed to fishy to be random like they said it was.
Then on sunday we went to the stadosphere to see an impersonatodor show. My favorite one was the Elvis. He sang alot of songs. I think he should have been the last one but he was the first one. They also had Britney and a few other people but Elvis was the best. You cant goto Vegas without seeing the King. This was my favorite show. Then after the show we went the top and looked at the city. It was cool seeing the city of Las Vegas all lighten up. We could see the strip and downtown and all of Las Vegas. It was really really cool.

Then on Monday DeeDee went and got her tatoo done on her ankle. It looks like a K with ivy leaves. I didnt really think she was going to do it. First we went to the place and they drew it out. They told us if she wanted it she had to come back in 30 minutes because the artist wasn;t in yet. SO we goto lunch and I totolay though she was going to freak out and not do it. But after lunch she went and got it done.
Then on monday night we went to Diablos Canto for New Years. It was kind of a mistake. IF I could do it over I wouldnt have bought the tickets. Instead I would have stayed at ballys where I could have just gone outside and seen the fireworks. There was way to many people crammed into the little bar and the band suxed ass. So if you ever togo las Vegas just stay on the stip. I not saying we didnt have fun but it would have been better if we just stayed by our hotel.

Then on tuesday morning we flew home to chicago

Grandma and Grandpa 60's party

Hello People so this weekend I went to South Bend, Indiana for my grandparents 60's anniversary party. The party was on Saturday night but we left Chicago late on Friday night for south bend because on Saturdays we needed to setup for the party. On Saturday morning the entire family came together for breakfast. My mom has 11 brothers and sisters so there was allot of people there. After breakfast everyone went over to the place where the party was going to be to help setup. You see the party was in a glass green house that didn't have any lights. So we had to hang up Christmas lights everywhere and setup tables and get the place ready for the party. It pretty much took all day to get the place ready but it was a really nice place because it had many different kinds of trees and it was like being in the tropics in the middle of winter. The only problem was the roof leaked water so during the party every once in awhile water would fall on your head. But it seemed like my grandparents really enjoyed themselves. I hope me and DeeDee have just as exciting life as them. It is amazing that they have been married for over 60 years. Expecting in this day and age when people get divorced.

Karrie Wood

This page is about Karrie Wood. Sorry to all of you who came to this page hoping to read something about the pitcher Kerry Wood but this page is about my dog. We adopted Karrie from Orphans of the Storm Animal Clinic in Riverswood on Feb. 24, 2007. She had been there since Feb 14 which is Valentines day in case you didn't know. I am so glad we brought this dog home because she is so much fun. She loves to play outside and chase birds, animals, and rabbits all day. She loves it when we take her to the dog park were she can run and play with other dogs. Her favorite games to play are Tug-A-War and chasing her tail. She thinks her front two paws are her hands because sometimes she tries to use them to hit things out of our hands. Like the other day, I was eating jelly beans and she keep hitting my hand with her paws trying to knock them out of my hand onto the floor. She will run and run and run until she cant stand anymore and will pass out and goto sleep

My World

Mike’s World

Welcome to my Blog, which is really going to be my online journal about my life and things that have happened in my life. My name is Mike and I live in Illinois and I just got married to a wonderful girl named DeeDee on June 9, 2007. For our honeymoon we went to Maui, Hawaii, which is a very beautiful place, and I already want to go back again.
We live in a 3 bedroom townhouse and we adopted a dog who is named Karrie. We call her Harry Karrie Wood because I love the Chicago Cubs. Karrie thinks she is a person she doesn’t realize that she is a dog.

I work as a pre-school teacher at a childcare Center. Yes that is right I am a boy teacher. I am the only boy teacher at the Center I work at. I love my children, they make everyday fun and an adventure. Some days they drive you up the wall and you want to run out screaming and other days you just love being there. But I think everyone feels that way about their job sometimes.
I also am obsessed with the Chicago Cubs. My favorite thing about summer is sitting in the bleachers drinking a cold beer watching the cubbies play. I hope this year they go all the way and win the world series. I think it would be awesome if on their 100 year aniverory they get to go to the world series. I even bet 100 bucks on them in Vegas!!! Go Cubbbies.
